Nevada’s Arc Dome Wilderness has been important to me for as long as I can remember. It is a place that epitomizes Nevada for me, and a place that is the source of many of my best memories. When I decided to start my own firm, I knew I had to name it after this special place.
The Arc Dome Wilderness is near the geographic center of Nevada. In the southern half of the Toiyabe Range, it sits between Austin and Round Mountain, Nevada, and makes up some of the most remote and beautiful land in the state. The Arc Dome, the highest summit in the area, is the heart of this fascinating geography and ecosystem.
Since I was a young child, I went hiking, camping, and fishing in the Arc Dome Wilderness, especially in the South Twin River Trail. My family would travel there during the summers, often with our closest family friends. I have continued this tradition, taking my son out to enjoy the exact camping spots and fishing holes that I went as a kind. My father even wrote a novel that is set in a place that is remarkably similar to the places we went as children and continue to visit today.
The Arc Dome is not only near the geographic center of the state, it is representative of the whole state as well. It is home to complex ecosystems, it requires collaboration across public and private systems to preserve, and it is enjoyed by people around the country and across the globe. It also embodies the resilience necessary to survive and thrive in a desert landscape, a resilience that our state has exhibited throughout its existence.
I had a list of potential names that I was considering for my new company. Some were more straightforward, and others referred to other representative features of Nevada, the place that has been my home since birth. But to me, the Arc Dome was the most meaningful representation of our state and the work that I wanted to do to support its continual evolution.
